So, i have a conundrum. I want to play minecraft, but I am absolutely seething at having to log in to my Microsoft account. I’ve owned Minecraft for over 10 years, but I’ve grown to despise Microsoft. I want an offline DRM-free Minecraft experience, and I’ve found versions of Prism launcher that support cracked game data, but I have no idea where to download cracked Minecraft. It’s like it doesn’t even exist. I’m tech savvy enough to download whatever game I want from the internet… except Minecraft??? Where is Minecraft?!

I’m also willing to simply download legitimate versions through my account one last time and then use a tool to crack them, but I can’t find a way of doing that either. I beseech you, Lemmy users, how can I play Minecraft with my girlfriend without Michaelsoft being involved?

Huh, it seems like I need a picture???

Just Google ‘TLauncher Minecraft’ and follow the instructions.

For Java it’s pretty straightforward, on Linux download PolyMC and on windows MultiMC.

PolyMC is a fork of MultiMC and is more available on Linux, basically it’s the foundation of PrysmLauncher but these are supporting offline accounts (aka cracked Minecraft)

This is probably one of the best ones out there, it’s based on a fork of Prism which has authlib support and FTB modpack support, and also has the Microsoft account DRM removed so you can use it without a valid Microsoft account.

Side note: if you want to run a dedicated server and play on it with a cracked version (or just an offline mode or while MS services are down) edit the server.properties file and set online-mode=false from true. (Then restart the server if it was online)

This wipes everyone’s inventories if there was already progress, so have everyone put their items in a chest before doing this. If you use modded, have everyone unclaim their chunks or any other username-bound items like teleporters with permission systems.

All of this can be redone, reclaimed, re-bound after the change happens. This effectively changes your in-game identities on a server from a Microsoft one to an offline one. This also makes it possible to evade username-based bans.

Minetest sadly doesn’t have the robust modding scene that Java minecraft has.

Minetest is cool to play around with, but its more like a resource for testing stuff than an actual game.

It may not have all the mods Minecraft does, but it supports various games like VoxelLibre and Minecraft which also supports mods and both provide actual gameplay not just testing.

Exile is also available in luanti and its brutal survival.

The main problem with Minetest for me, sadly, was incompatibility of the APIs and the general disarray of the modding scene. Most mods seem to be made for Minetest’s APIs, but games like Voxelibre use new ones and if I remember right their response to being incompatible with 99% of mods because of that was “it’s not our fault they’re all using outdated stuff” despite the fact that Minetest is simply being maintained and not updated, so they aren’t going to change their APIs.

The concept of simply copying minecraft is problematic on its own, too. Voxelibre is almost as illegal as a pirated version of Minecraft, it’s just not popular enough to get put in a court for it. It simply copies way too much, and that’s the same for all of the minecraft clones on the platform. So much development time across multiple projects is being put into just ripping off Minecraft to the point of being legally so, and at that point why not just pirate Minecraft? It’s compatible with all the mods from my childhood and wouldn’t be connected to a server that could be struck down at any time for hosting MC ripoffs.

So then I thought Minetest and a bunch of mods for it would be a better option, but I just can’t figure out a modlist that can compete with one from MC Java. They’re all so incoherent and don’t work together well. There’s a gun mod on one that, while it might’ve been okay for Minecraft, on an entirely new fully open-source platform it’s underwhelming. Whacking with the gun to shoot while something like MrCrayFish’s gun mod existed for MC just made me sigh.

I’ve decided I want to develop mods for Luanti and explore how the engine works to get a good handle on voxel game programming, and maybe fork the engine for my own game someday, because I admire how incredibly performant it is, but I’m not gonna play it much until I’ve learned add what I want and not just play around with other people’s stuff anymore.

Java is easy, Bedrock is almost impossible.

For Java, there are plenty of cracked launchers. Just find one that is a jar file and make sure you have OpenJRE installed. I think I was using SKLauncher.

For Bedrock, your only real option is finding the cracked launcher AppImage that has the ability to use .apk files. The hard part is that if you’re on an x86 platform (anything desktop that’s not using Apple’s M-Series or Qualcomm’s chips), you need an x86 apk, and the x86 apks from TLauncher will not work, I tried. You could scour the internet and find 1.8, and 1.14 (Village and Pillage) x86 apks, but they’re super old at this point. In the end, I gave up and paid £6 (UK), for Minecraft on the Google Play Store, so I can play Bedrock. It’s probably the only digital game purchase I’ve ever made.

Pollymc / Ely fork of prismmc for modded or vanilla Java for bedrock you can search on YouTube personally I used a DLL crack before abandoning bedrock I can’t find the original video but this one probably is good I would run it through virustotal before running it https://www.mediafire.com/folder/s8u115a659ebw/FlixdzUnlocker

    https://youtu.be/BYppCgRUlT8

Seems dodgy I know but I didn’t get my password or data leaked so I think it is good. And read the pinned comment before installing anything (if you want the crack to stay accross updates).

By default PRISM doesn’t allow you to add offline account without login a MS account that own the Java Edition. But you can edit a file in order to bypass this restriction. The Ely fork of PRISM doesn’t have that restriction.

Theres one Minecraft version on IA. Its an old one but its very portable, so you can play it on your school without much hassle (assuming your school installed java 8 lol).

I couldn’t ever get into Minecraft. Build craft yeah and other more in depth versions. One if the major things that turned me off the most was watching youtube. Before anything could be built but after watching people sink their life to make a flying plane or something insanely detailed. I don’t even want to try.

I agree. But it’s so difficult not to when you watch people spend years making realistic jet planes with pistons. Makes me feel like my builds would be crappy.
