Tbh I dont hate this. Its already a company I trust with this information so no new info is required.

Where it gets sticky for me is that providing private info to an Internet company is not the same as flashing an id card at the store as they can keep it forever.

That and the likes of reddit (for example not singling them out) are offloading this task to companies that have no gdpr compliance.

This is an US-based news article. They don’t know the difference between credit and debit cards. Debit cards will work, too. (As per this article.) And you basically get them thrown at you with any bank account.

Huh, you’re right. Just checked my account again and I now see this message:

Under the UK Online Safety Act, Valve is required to verify that you are 18 or older before accessing mature sexual content. If you wish to do so, please add a valid UK credit card to your account and afterwards update the Mature Content Preferences.

That wasn’t there a few hours ago.

Yeah, I think this is pretty poor from Steam. Especially if this expands in scope beyond the pornslop games to include stuff on the level of Cyberpunk or Baldurs Gate - which I assume it would have to per OSAs standards.

        Indeed.

Reminds me of the Android Market Play Store and not being able to use PayPal back yonder and having to use a throwaway top-up, debit card if you wanted to buy apps. Ewww.

Typical UK government solution look at a problem and find the absolute worst solution possible and run with it

They’re reactionaries that think their VPN to the Houses of Parliament is some magical thing that they can monetize and control.

            And they can fuck off.
