As an American, penalty points on a driving license is a nice idea, but makes me thing the
refjudge blows a whistle and cards the defendant.It’s a kind of ridiculous system though because you somewhat arbitrarily have 12 points on your licence, which is just a weird number for them to have chosen, and penalty points only stay on your licence for 18 months. So you could be like this idiot and drive while using your phone and you probably won’t be caught often enough for you to actually lose your licence.
So habitual offenders get away with it as long as they’re not too egregious.
How is this any different than a dashcam?

Given modern cars are obsessed with having the dash be a giant tablet, I don’t see how using a phone or operating your car are any different these days.
Oh, and giant dash tablets are fucking awful, but if they’re OK, then so should phones be.
Because the GPS isn’t distracting, reading a message is distracting, writing a message is especially distracting.
Glancing at the screen to see when you’re turning left isn’t.
